“LEADING WITH PERSEVERANCE”

“You won’t make it! You’re not hired! What should we call you? Why are you still here?” In this keynote, Darlene will share some occurrences in her life and leadership journey of being discounted and deemed disqualified by dispelling each of these myths through action. She will help leaders debunk such assertions by including teaching points on personal awareness, leadership development, and encouragement of the value of determination and consistency in pursuit of one’s goals.

You will Walk Away With:

  • Inspiration, motivation and tools to put into action to do the work in order to persevere,to lead themselves, lead others and to lead well!
  • Tools to apply in order to effectively lead themselves following principles and lessons that I’ve applied throughout decades of serving others in varied leadership roles in some of the most difficult and challenging circumstances.

Darlene serves businesses, companies and organizations by helping leaders develop leaders. Through her training sessions, she equips, engages and energizes participants with leadership and professional development training by providing them with tools that can be immediately applied in their personal and professional lives.  As an authority in leadership, building relationships and communications, she helps organizations develop their staff in a manner that improves their bottom line of first valuing people which improves the operation of their business and the performance and production of their staff.

Her prior career began in the Federal government at the entry level as a Correctional Officer promoting up to a Senior Executive Service Appointment into the position of Warden.  One of her most ground breaking accomplishments was becoming the first and only female to serve as Warden at the United States Penitentiary, Atlanta, GA.   She served as Warden of three Federal prisons after being told early on in her career after being told, “You won’t make it!”

These dynamics brought leadership expertise that has positioned her to help those she partners with in their growth.

Her guiding leadership principle is:

“Don’t teach what you don’t know. Don’t lead where you won’t go. Don’t ask for what you won’t give.”

It’s often said that failing to prepare is preparing to fail. This brief presentation offers an overview of the essential tasks of leadership succession, and offers practical tactics for launching or enhancing your efforts to build and maintain a strong bench.

“Can’t we just do the job?” – Why Culture Matters

While 94% of executives state a distinct and positive culture is important, only 28% know how to identify, create, and cultivate their desired culture. The gap between awareness and execution is real and the impact of a negative culture on an organization is significant. Only 20% of employees state they feel connected with their company’s culture and this disengagement leads to over 40% more turnover and close to 25% less productivity and reduced revenue. The good news…leadership and management teams who establish clarity around who they are and HOW they want to behave can create a values-based culture. We will discuss steps leaders can take to develop, create, and execute a positive culture to advance organizational effectiveness and sustainability.

Nikki is energized by the opportunity to encourage and support others in making positive contributions to our communities. She takes great joy in the simple yet meaningful act of offering encouragement.

Over the course of more than two decades, Nikki has served purpose-driven professional organizations as a leader and service provider. In her most recent role, she had the privilege of leading a team of financial consultants at Everence, where they served non-profit organizations, businesses, and churches in Central Pennsylvania. Additionally, she contributed to the growth of the organization’s services and the charitable foundation.

Nikki’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Messiah University and a Master of Arts in Organizational Development and Leadership from Shippensburg University. To deepen her expertise, she also earned the CAP (R) Certified Advisor in Philanthropy credential from The American College of Financial Services.

In her community, Nikki serves on the Board of Bridge of Hope National and is a member of West Shore Free Church. She and her husband, Andy, reside in Mechanicsburg and have two children – Ava and Zack. Nikki and Andy enjoy supporting their children in their sports activities and outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and fishing!

Leadership development books play a crucial role in nurturing and enhancing the skills and qualities necessary for effective leadership. These books offer a wealth of knowledge, insights, and practical guidance, drawing from the experiences and wisdom of seasoned leaders. They provide aspiring leaders with valuable lessons on communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal relationships.

Additionally, leadership development books help individuals gain a deeper understanding of their own leadership styles and strengths, allowing them to harness their potential and become more confident and self-aware leaders.
